Japanese Maple

noel forde asked 16 years ago

Hi Gerry. I have a Japanese Maple that I planted out last Oct., it was in a tub. It about 5ft. tall and 4ft. wide.
The leaves are out about three weeks now. The problem is that there is now leaf growth on the tips of of quite a few of the branches, it is not dead wood, should I cut back to where there is leaf growth that would be in most cases about 5-6 inches.
Look forward to your opinion.

The plant has taken a set-back and the tips of the shoots are inclined to die back when this happens. Leave it be and allow it to growth back from where it chooses. The dead tips can be taken off later when they will snap easily or else just drop away them selves eventually.
