I have a lawn of about a third of a acre and I am trying to redesgn it. can you recommend any simple design guides?

For a lawn of that size or any size, consider planting part of the area with trees and shrubs, in borders around the outside. FIll the corners and the boundaries with trees. This gives privacy, shelter, a good setting and wildlife increase.

Do not clutter the lawn area with specimen trees and shrubs, or small beds. Keep it relatively open and it will look bigger than it really is.

Use natural curves for an informal garden, straight lines for a formal lay-out.
