Leatherjackets in polytunnel

Sharon McKenna asked 13 years ago

Recently erected a polytunnell & planted my crop and have now found loads of leatherjacket pests. Can you please tell me how I can treat these without damaging the crop? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

The leather jackets were proably in the ground before you put up the tunnel and they will soon pupate and you are very unlikely to see them indoors again, as they are a pest of grass areas and weedy areas.

Cover the soil with a sheet of polythene to encourage them to emerge and then sweept them off or destroy them. Or scatter some slug pellets before covering as they tend to feed on pellets.
