lupin flowers deformed

Marie Danaher asked 14 years ago

This year I lost a lot of lupins but the ones that did survive had deformed flowers / tips. Also now that they have gone off they have not formed any seed pods.

This sounds like damage caused by lupin aphid, the feeding of which can stunt and deform, and cause the collapse of the plants in an extreme case.

Watch for this pest in late spring and control it if necessary with a systemic insecticide.
