i planted a mountain ash tree three years ago. the first year it produced red berries but since then it has failed to produced any berries.what is the reason for this?

Trees are often in flower or berry because of the restrictions of the pot, and when they are planted in the open groundthey grwo rapidly and go off fruiting for a few years, until they make some size. It is likely to start fruiting again in a few years. If the soil is rich it might take longer.
