New polytunnel

Marie Casey asked 12 years ago

Is it better to have raised beds in a poly tunnel or plant directly into the ground, or a combination of both? I intend to buy a 30ft x 18ft tunnel and grow both veg and flowers for the garden.

Raised beds are only ever of value if there is a poor depth of natural soil, or the natural soil is very heavy and drains poorly.

It is much easier to grow on the flat, making sure to improve the greenhouse soil with plenty of organic material.

Raised beds havea nasty tendency to dry out quickly and need more watering.

Put in a central path of some kind to take most foot traffic and work out from there.
