New variety of grape?

joseph kennedy asked 15 years ago

Have a vine grown from seed pips, 15 years now, and grows lovely sized grapes each year, and taste lovely too. Root is outside and vine runs through a glass-house.Is this a new variety, and can it be registered as a new variety?

Grown from a pip, this is, by definition, a new variety. Whether it is different enough from its parent, which is probably not known, is another question.

In general, varieties are only named if they are significantly better or distinct from their parents or the general type. A plant can be ‘named’ by the valid publication of the name, which is a different thing from registration of a plant name for commercial purposes, and the attendant Plant Breeder’s Rights, akin to a patent.
