Patio screening hedge

Alan Gaffney asked 16 years ago
Need a 2m high hedge (including 50cm high pots) which will provide privacy from neighbours. Dense and shallow if possible. Evergreen. Thinking about bay laurel?,- anything better?

Much depends on what you can get to buy.

Almost any kind of evergreen would be suitable … laurel, bay laurel, evergreen oak, photinia, privet etc. Any of these can be kept clipped to a neat screen. An alternative would be ivy trained on trellis or wire supports.

The trick will be to keep these plants healthy and vigorous in pots. This will require careful attention to watering and feeding.
