Pink/Purple Daisies wedding

Avril O\’Connor asked 14 years ago

I am planning my wedding which is next June and really like the pink/purple daisies. I was planning to grow these myself to bring down cost and wondering what the flower is called, where to purchase them online, where is the best place to grow them and when and when do they bloom.

The pink and purple daisies that you are referring to are probably African daisy or Osteospermum. These do flower around then but the seeds would need to have been sown last year to have sizeable plants to flower.

In any case, it is very difficult to produce flowers for a particular date because weather variations can speed up or slow down flowering by a week or so either way.

You won’t save much by growing flowers but you will save yourself a headache by not trying. That is not to say that very nice home-grown flowers can be used for a wedding, they can, but it is more a case of using what is available in the garden at the time. Perhaps some relative or friend has a good garden and can give you access to flowers.

Having said that, flowers need skills to put in place and you pay for that as well as the flowers themselves, and flowers are not such a costly item relative to other things.
