plum problems

I have 3 plum trees. All have varying degrees of the following disease. These photos are the worst. What do they have?

This appears to be canker and it is usually due to soft growth due to rich feeding with manure or compost.

Try applying some potash fertiliser or fruit fertiliser in spring, at 50g per square metre, for 3 years, to harden the growth. It will also encourage more fruiting.

It may have come about by rubbing if there was a support post when the tree was younger.
