Hi Gerry. Is there any effective way to get rid of rushes growing on a lawn? There is drainage in place, but the rushes keep coming up. Thank you.

Rushes grow in wet soil or heavy soil that stays wet for a time. They re-establish from seeds in the soil. Drainage helps but if the soil is heavy, they will come back.

Regular, frequent cutting will eventually wear the rushes down. Alternatively you can let the grow and using a weed-wiping bar, which is a rope from which Roundup solution oozes, you can wipe the rushes as they are taller than the grass. Roundup will kill grass too. Or you can rig up you your weed-wipe bar and fit it to a sprayer.

I would try mowing often and feed the lawn well.
