Problem with tomatoes.

Tony Gallagher asked 15 years ago

I have been growing tomatoes for many years in a greenhouse. In the last few years I am loosing a lot of tomatoes in the early stages as they fall from the plant at the knuckle just before the truss. Not all are lost but certainly the majority fall as if they had been cut off. Can you advise?

This sounds like poor pollination which can happen to the first trusses or later if the plant is severely stressed for moisture.

In young plants it happens because the plant is growing too fast and the cure is to keep watering to a minimum until the first truss of fruit has set.
