Problem with Weeping Willow

Liz Fraher asked 16 years ago

Hi GerI have a weeping willow (planted in May) which is now full of this unsightly yellow powder and the leaves seem to be drying up and dying. What is it and is the tree any good or will I have to take it up. Will this disease affect the bulbs I have planted around it?Many Thanks

The willow is probably the weeping Kilmarnock willow, which suffers from rust diease, and there is little can be done about it. Most specimens of this tree suffers from the problem and look unsightly in late summer. It is worse in some years, especially with soft growth.

You will have to make a decision as to whether it is too unsightly to keep or not.
