I have planted griselinia in a deep raised bed created along a low wall (3ft) to provide screening from neighbours. (Final height of hedge req. 4ft ) I realise it is a vigorous grower and I do not want it bare at the base. Planted last month 18inches high should I cut back now or leave until the spring? and can I grow any ground cover in with it.

It can be kept at 4 feet although it may tire after a couple of decades. It will usually fill its lower levels but if there are bare spots, simply take some cuttings from the hedge and stick them in the soil along the base in October. These root readily and fill the gap.
