Rhododendron macabeanum is a large grower and often takes years to flower. If the plant is healthy it will eventually settle down to flowering. The ground might be a bit rich and this delays flowers.

Light shade does not matter but a lot of shade can delay and reduce flowering.  A few hours of sunshine each day is beneficial.
