sprouts

I am having problems with my sprouts in my allotment. They have lost a lot leaves (spotted first and fell). They are like minature loose cabbages. They fall apart when I remove from stalk. Any ideas?

Sounds like you have two problems. Leaf spot of brassicas can cause leaf drop of the older leaves. But it sounds like you have what’s called ‘blowers’, which is when the sprout opens up like a small cabbage with floose leaves.

This is due to too-rich feeding, especially nitrogen not balanced with potash and often happens when too much farmyard manure is used. Too much nitrogen also makes the plant leaves soft and more prone to leaf spot disease.
