storing pears

hi gerry a friend of mine over the road gave me some pears he had grown perfect on the outside but when you cut into them they were soft and decaying in the middle a few were ok but the majority were bad inside any ideas what happened thanks franksenior

Your benefactor should have given you the pears earlier. They had simply been off the tree too long and has gone brown in the middle.

 Some varieties last for just a week or two off the tree, others for several weeks and even a few months for some, butthey must be monitored as to when they are ready to eat.
