Is Oct a good time to take Laurel hedge cuttings . I have about 50 meters of Laurel hedge planted four years ago and growing well, i need another 15/20 meters to finish a boundary. How do i take cuttings and grow them.

Laurel is best taken as cuttings in September or October, dipping the cutting ends in rooting powder and inserting in trays of 2 peat and 1 sand compost mix. Place in cold frame or low plastic tunnel, and pot up or plant out the rooted cutting to grow on in spring.

For the sake of 15 to 20 metres, which is 30 or 40 plants, this is hardly worthwhile and you will lose two years while the rest of the hedge is growing away. It might be better to buy the few plants required as laurel is not very expensive.
