Vine weevil

Philippa Kidd asked 13 years ago
I found a vine weevil in the compost when I was emptying my wormery. Is the compost now unusable? Do you have suggestions on how I could rescue the compost without having to go through it for grubs?

The plants have taken a shock on being planted out, which is not unusual. They probably did not get enough water, remember that the roots are stil in the shape of the pot and have not yet rooted out.

Water about once a week until there is active new growth, but give a good soak, about 4 or 5 litres each. No feeding.

The hen manure would have no effect if it were well mixed into the back-fill soil, but could be part of the problem if it was placed in any concentration close to the root ball.
