White spots on tomato plants

Claire O\’Byrne asked 15 years ago

I sowed patio-container type tomatoes, think they might be tumbling toms. I have them on my window sill and they are growing strongly. This weekend they have started to develop white spots on some leaves. I want to find out what this is and how to stop it. I haven’t started feeding them yet, will start now. They are in quite a sunny spot.

The whitish biscuit-coloured marks on the leaves are due to sun-scald … a result of the plants being a bit tender in a hot sunny spot and probably going a little dry at the roots even for a short time.

The plants will soon recover but scald can happen if watering is neglected or too much heat is generated.
