I have aold beech hedge for the last 25 yrs, continuously kept at 5ft. I cut it once a yr. in the last few yrs, there has been poorer and poorer growth and less cutting on it and on the underside of the leaf there are masses of white aphids. I also spray the undergrowth to keep the weeds away. Is the hedge not foing well because i am not letting it grow wild or is it the aphids that are casuing the problem?
My dog is eating and trampling on my plants what can I do to prevent this?
My camellia Donation about 30 years old is covered in a soot like substance. It looks black even from a distance and this substance is now spreading to a nearby euonymus and pittospemum. I have other camellias nearby. Should I dig up the entire shrub?

like every escallonia in the street, my six foot one has been dramatically effected by the dreadful disease. It is standing practically bare for the first time since planting 7 years ago. lots of the tips have no leaves but have dead flowers still on them and it is looking very depressed indeed :(i want to ask if i can go out and cut it back at this time of year or will that do more damage? im keen to get it into rehab!
Can you please suggest some plants to grow on a north facing house wall. I currently have euonymus but they has been decimated by vine weevil and mildew. They are in areas seperated from the main garden by a driveway.I also have a hyderangea doing quite well despite the weevil in the area. It is a clay soil, exposed site and only gets very early morning sun.
I had an escallonia hedge all around the back of my site (1/2 acre) that has died from disease and especially frost/snow. I want to replace it with an evergreen preferably, as I have copper beech in the front. My neighbor has laurel which has suffered quite a bit from frost. Can you recommend a plant that can cope with an exposed site, heavy frost and is moderately quick growing? Is leylandii really that bad? What about Thuja or viburnum?
All the bark and base leaves of my Laurel Hedging has been eaten. I'm wondering is it rabbits thats eating the bark and leaves? How do i stop this from happening as it looks very serious. The laurel is close to six feet now and i'm afriad its going to kill them.
I have a 60m escallonia hedge which is suffering from a fungal disease. I would like to replace it with a mixed native hedge. Can I cut the plants to the base and plant in between or must I dig out the roots? Also, any suggestions for disposal of the old hedging material?
I have acers planted both in the garden and in pots. Over the last year 2 dissectums have started to die. Both were planted about 7 years ago and have grown to over 6 feet. The main branches start to turn black and this progresses up the branches to the stems. Cutting back the branches has not stopped the problems spreading to other branches. So far a red branched acer within 2 yards of the 2 affected trees is not affected. All are mulched with eiricacous compost and watered equally during dry spells. I attach a photo of one of the remaining branches.
whats beech aphid and how to control it
I plan to grow Danish Noble, Providence 'Bidstrup F545' I read recently that there is a new disease that is spreading through Fir's., I can not find the article so I cant not think of the name of this disease.I'm just wondering have you come across it, and if so what would you reccomend against it and other diseases on the young plants? Plant supplier is of good quality!
I have attached a photo of a strange development on my Autumn Flowering Cherry Tree. Is this a disease. I must mention that since I planted this tree two years ago it has been plagued with disease and while it flowers they are few and far between. I sprayed it regularly thoughout the season last year and now this funny branch has appeared. Should I dig the tree up and thrown it out and/or will it infect my other trees in the garden.
I have flies in the soil of my house plants and now see small maggots in the soil also. What do I do to get rid of the problem? Will they spread to my orchids?
I planted a cherry blossom tree 2 years ago. It's growing well. The leaves on the top branches are full of holes, lower down they are ok. Wonder does it have a disease. What can I do?
