We sowed a magnolia Susan ten years ago. It took a long time to flower but this year it was beautiful. However during the winter a large branch was broken in the wind. It has left the tree very lob-sided. I want to cut off a lower branch to balance it up but not sure how or when to do this. Any suggestions?
I have a Daphne Mezereum approx 10 years old and about 5 feet high. A lot of the branches are falling over due to the weight of the leaves and berries. Can I hard prune it back to get it back in some sort of shape or any other ideas?
Great year for blossom including our mature Paulownia. My wife saw a program on pruning Paulownia for max flowers, but can't remember the details (BBC?)... can you advise specifics. I have pruned v early spring sometimes, good for giant leaves but flowers seems to dislike pruning.
Is it a good time to prune the top of my laurels which have been frost damaged since December. The were planted in Oct/Nov Last year. There are lots of new buds coming out on the bottom of the hedge but the top of them are just branchy and very dry inside if you break off the top of a branch.
I have a few mature plants of st. john's worth, however they appear to be badly damaged after the winter. There are a few shoots on 2 of them, the rest are just brown. Should i cut them back .

I have also planted a beech tree some 6 years ago (fagus sylvatica) about 30 metres away from the house and would like to know: 1. any problems with the roots in the future to foundation or pathway around house?2. I noticed, that the tree has 3 leaders (one would be better?) and should I cut out the other leaders ? Also would like to prune lower, bigger branch. when should that be done (early spring or late fall)?
Does Clematis alpina Frances Riva need regular pruning and if so at what time of year.
Please tell me when and how to prune?
I have a willow in the back garden not sure what variety, but I my best guess is Goat Willow. I understand these can be aggressively pruned, but if I prune it right now, will it stay bare for the whole summer? It seems top-heavy, but I don't want an empty trunk until next year. I have attached a pic and am thinking of pruning it where I have added the red line, to remove all of the messy clumps of new sprigs from previous years. What do you think?
