Lafcadio Hearn Gardens

Since opening just over a year ago, the Lafcadio Hearn Garden in Waterford has attracted great interest. With a traditional Japanese tea garden, stream garden, ponds, waterfall and woodland, it is influenced by the tradition of a Japanese Strolling Garden. Lafcadio Hearn has Irish, Greek, American and Japanese connections. He is best remembered today in Japan by his adopted name, Koizumi Yakumo. Generations of Japanese children have been taught English through the medium of his translations of many key works of Japanese folklore and legend.

Fota House ISNA Plant Fair

On Sunday, 18 September, Fota House will host the Irish Specialist Nursery Association Plant Fair. The ISNA was established to represent the smaller, specialised nurseries, which offer a wide variety of plants, services and advice. Most of the stock that they produce is propagated by themselves. They offer a large selection of plants ranging from the more common species to rare and obscure cultivars. The Fair will run from 11am to 4pm, and catering facilities will be available in Fota House and on site throughout the day. Admission 5 including parking.
