Almond Tree Hardiness

Joan Fitzpatrick asked 14 years ago
I am planning on pleaching four Almond Trees in Tipperary. Can you tell me would Almond Trees thrive or indeed survive in Tipperary given the fact that we have pretty severe frost there each winter.

Almond trees are very pretty in flower, with large soft pink flowers on bare stems. The tree is hardy but the blossom may get a touch of frost.

The almond can flower from mid-February and runs the risk of frost some years. But usually the unopened flowers are not affected and open in due coourse.

Almond trees do not yield nuts although a few fruits sometimes appear but do not mature.
