Astillbe J Gladstone leaf wilt

Jessica Scott asked 15 years ago

I bought my plant a 2 weekends ago and within a week the leaves started to wilt. I thought it might be because it wasn’t getting sufficient water on our porch so I moved it so it would get plenty of the rain we are getting this Summer. Tonight I cut off the flowers which are fading in any case and watered it. I’ve read that it could be a fungus and if that is the case I should destroy it. It is still in the pot it came in so I’m also wondering if it was a problem from the nursery.Once again Thanks , this is the first time I’ve come across your site. Great to have a local voice on these matters!

Astilbe likes to be moist at the root, not wet , but moist, and it simply dried out in the pot. Even the regular showers would not be enough water for this plants as the leaves block most of it.

Plant it in the soil, in not too fry a spot, and it will recover.
