Dirty Corner

Pauline O\’Reilly asked 12 years ago

I have about one acre in lawn and whilst I mulch as much as I can there are times I do have to cut and collect. I dump the cut grass in two dirty corners in the garden but now they are just unusable as they contain a dreadful gunge. I cannot drive the mower in. Is there anything I can do to break down or dry up this ugly mess?

As a long-term solution, consider planting part of the acre with trees … that means you have less mowing and less grass to dispose off and it can be spread out under trees.

And you have the beauty and benefits of garden woodland. More at: https://gardenie.wpengine.com/gerrycategory/hedges-and-shelter-belts/?id=5411

All you can do otherwise is to choose another place to dump because large quantities of wet cut grass tends to clump togehter and exclude air. This leads to anaerobic digestion and wet, slimy smelly  decay.
