I’m looking for a Cherry Tree recommendation. 1) Tasty cherries 2) Mid sized – pref 3 metres approx height and bushy. Any suggestions? Also – Will birds devour the lot or will I be left with at least half the produce? I’m prepared to net the tree if necessary.

‘Stella’ is the most reliable of cherries, also most widely available, usually on Colt rootstock which will make a 4-metre tree. ‘Sunburst’ is also available, darker in colour. Both are self-fertile, so only one tree is needed.
Birds are the bane of cherry-growing and netting is likley to be essential. This is easier to do if the tree is wall-trained in a fan-shape.
