Feeding seedlings

bernadette mccormack asked 14 years ago

At what stage do I begin to feed seedlings – hardy and half-hardy annuals? i.e. Calendula and Petunia Is it when the first true leaves appear? How do I know that they are “true” leaves?

There is enough nutrients in compost for 4  to 6 weeks, then feeding is necessary. if the plants are inthe open ground, they do  not need feeding.

Seeds of half-hardy annuals need to be sowmn before mid-March. Hardy annuals cna be sown outdoors until the end of May or early June.

Seedlings have 2 seed leaves and then the true leaves appear, and look like leaves.
