Frostbitten Laurel Hedging

Carmel Courtney asked 13 years ago

I planted my Laurel Hedging a year ago. It is about 5 feet high but the recent frost have burnt alot of the leaves. Some are completely brown and some are are brown with a little bit of green in the centre. What should i do to bring them back to been healthy? Before they were burnt some of them were turning yellow what would have been causing this.

This sounds like general weather damge due to exposure. Big laurel plants would have come from a nursery and often take time to adjust to a new location. Small plants adapt more easily.

Yellowing could be a sign of general hardship or it could be a sign of waterlogged roots. Laurel will eventually die due to waterlogging and you may need to check if the soil is draining properly.

Otherwise keep the plants free of weeds that might compete and put them undet greater pressure.
