fruit on a wall

Will asked 15 years ago

I have a south facing wall, 1 m high, about 6 m wide. It faces a border about 10 metres away with 2 birch trees and 3 snowy mespilus + shrubs, so gets dappled shade.. Would nectarines or peaches grow on the wall, if not any other fruit eg pear.

At one metre high, the wall is lower than walls used for fruit. It might be possible to increase its height, both for the fruit and privacy. The shade is not ideal and will increase in the future as the trees grow.

You could try a pear ‘Conference’ which is the best variety and there are probably enough pollinators nearby if you live in an urban area. The peach is not satisfactory outdoors due to peach leaf curl disease in our damp climate.
