Garden Edging Ideas

Lisa Sheane asked 9 years ago

Can you recommend a cost effective garden edging about 12″ to 18″ tall that I can use to keep blackbirds digging out mulch from flower beds & scattering onto the grass. Very large area to do.

A tall edging would tend to hem in your borders and you would be looking at edging over a large area.

Instead to ease the problem, consider more low permanent planting at the edge of the borders, such are bergenia, lams ear, lady’s mantle and hardy geranium.

Separately, or in addition to this, you could lay paving slabs flat with the lawn and these are easily swept clear of mulch, and indeed it will blow away when mowing.

And remember that mulch disappears after a couple of years, unless you top it up, of course.
