Can you please tell me how best to grow ginger? What is the best soil to grow it in and when do you harvest it. How is it best used in cooking?

Ginger is a tropical plant and needs lots of warmth and moisture. However, it is possible to grow it in a greenhouse or conservatory in the summer.

Select a nice plump root with some sctive buds in the supermarket and pot in a large pot with compost and half good garden soil. It can grow to two metres tall and needs lots of watering and feedin every two weeks. Harvest it when the new rhizomes are a good size.
