graveyard plot

Carmel O\’Callaghan asked 13 years ago

I have a 3 person graveyard plot with a headstone(causes shade)surrounded by a kerbstones. The plots designed with paving slabs & 2 cross shapes left for planting, the shrubs have got too big for the space & the headstone cannot be seen anymore. I have japanese anemones(now invasive),hebes , variegeted shrub, which I trim & dwarf conifers which grew well but now too big. This plot is in the first row in the cemetary & I would like plants that require the minimum of care & dont grow too big with year round interest

A good plant for this is a carpet of London pride, or alternatively mossy saxifrage, both of which are low and cover the soil surface.

Taler kinds that could be used include epimedium or bergenia, using just one plant, and all of these are evergreen, gives a quiet dignity to the planting.
