Green fly on potatoes

Geraldine Martin asked 15 years ago

We had a problem with green fly on our small patch of potatos so we sprayed them with Rose Clear. We later read that this should not be used on vegetables. Is that direct contact eg lettuce or should we discard these potatos now.

Under EU regulations, any use of a product for which it is not authorized in a breach of the regulations and the law. This is to prevent the unapproved use of chemicals on crops. So, a rose product is only approved for roses.

As it happens both of the active ingredients, bifenthrin and myclobutanil, are both separately approved for use in general insecticides and fungicides on flowers, fruit and vegetables. The formulation may also contain wetting agents, emulsifiers etc.
