Green manure can supply nurtients and structure to soil. Is is best for light soils that dry out as it helps to retain nutrients.

The idea is to sow green manures such as phacelia, ryegrass, vetch or clover in August or September and dig or rotoavate in late winter or spring.

On heavy soil, green manure can make cutlivation in spring mre difficult as the soil dries more slowly.
