Greenfly on vegetables

lorraine ocarroll asked 15 years ago
I would like to know what to use to keep greenfly and caterpillars away from my container grown vegetables and herbs. I,m worried about using anything that may be harmful to eat.

Adopt a wait and see approach. Sometimes pests arrive, sometimes they don’t. They can’t be kept away as such.

Caterpillars can be picked off as eggs before they hatch, or after they hatch, on small amounts of vegetables but you must be vigliant. Greenflies can often be washed off.

There are effective and relatively safe products such as derris but if you are worried about using sprays, don’t use them and forego the crop.
