holly berries withered

David Halligan asked 14 years ago

My father lives in balbriggan, co dublin and planted a few holly bushes approx 8/9 years ago . This the first year he had berries or so he recalls . There was a large crop this year but all have seemed to have withered and died . Any idea why this would have happened?

Young trees of many kinds will often abort berries if they are growing strongly but later settle down to fruit. Do not use any feeding as this can be counter-productive, except some potash if you wish.
