honey fungal disease

a quick follow-up to the q on a lilac i recently posted….do you recommend that i do lift it? also if i were to plant sometthing else in the same place is that ok, maybe an acer

It is unlikely to recover to any useful degree. There is always a certain risk in re-planting into an area with active honey fungus, if that indeed is the cause.

But hawthorn is relatively resistant. Maple is not great.
