In effect are lawn sand and sulphate of iron are the same thing? Both kill moss on lawns but is there one better than the other?

Lawn sand is about 15% sulphate of iron and if sulphate of iron is applied directly, a higher rate of the active ingredient is used and is therefore more effective.
