We were given a young douglas fir tree as a present and have nurtured it to about 3 feet tall. We have a suitable area selected for growing this large tree but need to know what is the best way prepare new planting site and what time of year is ideal for the move.

Although best planted small, Douglas fir can be moved in October to a weed-free site and keep about 1 metre diameter from of weeds and grass for a couple of years.
