new hedge

tom d asked 13 years ago

I recently cut all my escalonia hedge (frost damaged)down to the root( left roots in). Could you please advise on a good replacement, that grows fast and survies harsh winters. What about Gold leylandii-Castlewellan Gold ?

Leyland cypress is too vigorous for most gardens and cannot be cut back successfully if it gets too big.

God choices could include holly, laurel or Portugal laurel, and yew is very good if grazing animals cannot get at it, as it is poisonous but makes a superb hedge.
