Orange lilies

John Russell asked 9 years ago

Many years ago an article was published in “The Irish Garden” about the traditional Orange and Easter lily commonly grown in Irish gardens. I specifically want to know the botanic name of the traditional Irish Orange lily. Other Lilies that are orange are available but these are not the one’s I remember from childhood. They had tiny black or brown spots on the petals. Would they still be grown in some gardens?

You are probably thinking of the ‘tiger lily’, Lilium tigrinum, a robust and long-lasting lily, popular in cottage gardens.
