parasite on bark

Aisling Grimley asked 14 years ago

I’m looking for help on the most natural way to deal with a parasite on the bark of a magnolia stellata. There are spots like warts appearing on the bark. When i remove them there is a white sticky substance around and in between them, a bit like candy floss – white and fluffy/sticky. What do you think this is and how should I deal with it. Many thanks aisling

This is chestnut scale insect, a sap-sucking insect that affects many kinds of trees. Spray with a systemic insecticide such as Provado Bug Killer.
