I cut out a Griselina hedge that was killed off with the frost last year. As the hedge has been there for nearly 30 years, I couldn’t dig up the stumps. Can I plant laurels in between the stumps of the Griselina? Can I plant in February and have you any tips to help them grow.

You can plant between the stumps but make sure all growth is dead, not jus the hedge, all grass and weeds. Either clear this all off or use Roundup to kill it.
It is time enough to plant in March, especailly if it is a windy area.
Give a scatter of general fertiliser and make sure to water in any dry spell of more than a few days.
