Problem with alstroemeria

Carmel O\’Connor asked 13 years ago

I got a gift of this beautiful shrub. It hasn’t thrived at all. I started gardening in April of this year. The flowers are beside a beautiful wall of an old walled garden. I am aware that years ago this area had glass houses and in places there may be old foundations. I have cared for and encouraged the shrub but to no avail. My friend has been able to cut hers as cut flowers. I hope you will be able to help me and I would appreciate same.

Alstroemeria likes open soil with lots of organic material but one that does not dry out, the organic material holding  moisture.

Lift the whole plant carefully and plant it in a spot with more space and add some organic material such as well-rotted compost.

Give it more space and water it a few times during the early summer next year if there are any dry spells.
