Problem with apple crop

My apple tree Discovery usually has a good apple crop and again this year has lots of apples. However they seem to be splitting/cracking. Is this a virus or weather- related or pest-related?The other tree Elstar’s apples are not affected.I recently had to cut down a Bramley apple tree badly affected by canker and prune some of Discovery’s branches that were also affected- are the cracks canker related? Would appreciate advice as the apples are lovely to eat and I don’t want to lose the crop!

That splitting is due to uneven growth due to changeable weather. Watering during a dry spell would help to prevent the split when rain comes.

Although dull, rainfall has been light.
