pruning laurels

rose savage asked 13 years ago

Is it a good time to prune the top of my laurels which have been frost damaged since December. The were planted in Oct/Nov Last year. There are lots of new buds coming out on the bottom of the hedge but the top of them are just branchy and very dry inside if you break off the top of a branch.

Young laurels can be trimmed now to shape them, but normally wait until late summer, when growth is finished and the hedge stays looking neat longer.
