I sowed seeds of purple sprouting broccoli direct into the soil in the spring and transplanted them on 8th April to a sunny spot in a cage well spaced and fed with comfrey tea. They should be harvested at the end of winter but they seem to be maturing now but they seem to be going to seed. Some of the heads are the size of a sink stopper but most are tiny.
Seeds of purple sprouting broccoli to be picked in spring are sown in May or June and planted out when about 10cm tall. They are best started in small pots or cell trays.
Make sure they are watered until they settle in.
Leave your plants in place, they might still give a crop of sorts in spring.
