Red spots on blackcurrant bushes

My blackcuurant and gooseberry bushes have red spots/spores, (not sure what they are ) all up along the stems. any idea what it might be, and do I need to get rid of them, Its only thier second year in my garden.

Blackcurrants and raspberries naturally have small spots called lenticels that facilitate air exchange through the bark and these appear along the length of the stems. 

Occasionally a disease called coral spot creates small fungal growth of bright red on affected shoots but usually this is only on one or two shoots, or parts of shoots, and should be pruned out.
