A 22 year old laburnum tree (see photo) that was very much the centrepiece of our garden has died from a fungus disease … not sure if it is honey fungus. We will have to get it removed and we are seeking a suitable replacement … can you suggest a suitable replacement tree that would grow to perhaps 15-20 feet and would give a good flower display.

The wall and paving look new and it is likely that root disturbance or covering of the root area is what has killed the laburnum, which is sensitive to root disturbances.
A good replacement would be a Japanese maple for superb foliage effect though flowering in limited, or Cornus kousa which is an elegant deciduous tree with good flowers.
